When you learn something new and useful, something that will help you in the years to come - something someone tells you - advice, a story, a lesson, a moral - embed it forever in your mind. Learn it thoroughly. Don't let mundane distractions of daily pointlessness waste it away.
One of my many weaknesses is distraction. And lack of focus.
(Reading Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere. Still. And this thought struck me midway through my reading, a minute ago. My heroine is remembering in a dream everything that her dead father taught her. And some things which, I think, are going to save her life more than once. Good book, btw.)
